A letter and update to my typing friends and families, 2-11-2012
You came to my home, and these are my thoughts.
Dear Friends,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here. This is a legion selected by God to give a
voice to those without one. We are among the blessed few who have the grace of a support
system for facilitated communication. Without this, we toy with the idea that all would be fine,
but we know deep down that we would be in desperate isolation. I can remember well the
isolation and loneliness. I thank God every day from the bottom of my heart for Poorman and
remember that an obligation is mine to go back and free the others we have left behind.
Now we are engaged in a great struggle to determine whether our freedom and the freedom of
others is simply a product of circumstance and another’s generosity or is a God-given right to be
all that we should and could have been from the beginning. It will require confidence-building
and courage, promotion and a teaching and learning experience for everyone we can engage
about this.
I ask that you join me in the quest to open doors locked to our brothers and sisters, free them
and their families from the bondage of isolation, and let communications of competence and
love flow forth. If you will join me, say so and let’s do a thankful, really thoughtful job of giving
back.
Thanks for being here. You are incredible and I’m proud to be with you.
