Thomas proudly becomes a father today. His son Titus is so small and unwasted by lifestyle and limitation. The world is saving its’ fun for him to each day discover, assuming all experiences teach him opportunity. When we see this little wonder of nature, we are reminded of how quietly in witness we are guideposts to the possibilities he can see. Truth for him as language teaches values is so fully shaped by wasted words of willful want rather than being and presence. Now it is simply a quiet understanding between his soul and God. Unprotected, this truth becomes only a shadow of what quietly his life could be with a father’s simple, loving direction. Willful wanting will easily enough snuff tearfully the ember of sanctifying awesome innocence he begins with. Thomas’s peaceful presence and quiet strength will help to lift Titus above the overwhelming menial wants.
Power is always in the son’s healing relationship with his father, who will each day walk the path as model of each value and way assumptions shape seeing and hearing the world. Most assumptions are hidden secrets long ago buried with experiences we made decisions about, lasting with effect in our lives beyond their usefulness. Sons heal their fathers hurt in a world where new possibilities can be discovered whenever new eyes can see.
Thomas, as Titus matures, taking direction from you, may your love for him permeate all opportunities for wandering this world and true miracles emanate from the ways you are together. Amen.
